DRD Power to Turn Waste into Electricity

North East engineering development company, DRD Power Limited, have unveiled their pioneering organic rankine cycle waste heat recovery system. It is pioneering because it can convert waste heat from industrial process (at relatively low temperatures of 90-130 Centigrade) directly into electricity. The first prototype system has been installed at Huntsman Pigments site at Hartlepool and features a refrigeration compressor effectively running in reverse to drive a generator. The unit has operated for around 3000 hours and produced electricity at around 100kW, worth around £50,000.
