Half a billion boost for green tech
The Government has announced investment programmes for ‘green’ technologies potentially worth over £500m.
The majority of funds are earmarked for improvements to electric vehicle charging infrastructure and around £143m is planned for supporting projects aimed at controlling air pollution, developing ‘cleaner’ food systems, reusing and recycling schemes and helping sustainably manage the UK’s marine resource.
Around £400m is set aside to bolster Britain’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure, with the first £70m allocated for 3,000 charge points – more than doubling the number across the UK to 5,000.
The further £143m will be spent on research and development projects:
- £31.5m for Greenhouse Gas Removal Technologies
- £22m to address indoor and outdoor pollution
- £47m to address ‘cleaner’ food systems for healthy people and a healthy planet
- £30m to develop new and innovative ways to reuse and recycle materials
- £12.4m to help the UK better manage marine resources
