Homes take heat off factory waste
Thousands of homes could eventually be heated by waste heat from industrial machinery, geothermal energy and possibly even tube trains.
It’s part of the government-backed ‘heat networks’ expansion plan. 80% of homes are currently heated by gas fired boilers, and a move to ‘heat networks’ would reduce carbon emissions and help meet the government’s 2050 target.
Is this feasible?
Once the government has agreed funding for feasibility studies, it’s expected that around 130 councils across England and Wales will investigate how heat networks can be implemented.
