Jobs increase at North East Subsea firms
Subsea cabling specialist JDR Cables has opened its European service centre at Walker on the banks of the River Tyne, bringing around 50 jobs to the region. JDR has recently been successful in winning contracts with Tideway, 11Wells and East Anglia One, and is the preferred supplier for US Wind and Windplus.
Darlington based Deep Ocean the subsea cabling and trenching experts, have won another contract, to install cables for the Merkur offshore wind farm off the German coast. Work starts next year.
The company will be trenching, laying cables and installing power supply protection for the challenging project, with the export cable corridor crossing nine existing live cables and a commissioned wind farm. The company says they have “irons in the fire” with potential contracts in China and Europe together with interconnector work and a ‘pipeline’ stretching to 2021/22.
