Liverpool to be world’s windiest city

The city world famous for music will soon be world famous for wind.  Offshore wind developer Dong Energy, together with its project partners PKA and KIRKBI A/S, is installing the world’s largest offshore wind turbines at its Burbo Banks extension project, off the Liverpool coast.

32 turbines will generate enough electricity to power 230,000 homes, once the project completes in 2020.  The first turbine has already been installed.  It stands 195m high - taller than the Gherkin building in London.
