Major new offshore wind hub at Grimsby
Danish offshore wind developer DONG Energy will build a multi-million pound wind hub in Grimsby. The development is planned for Grimsby’s Royal Dock and will become Britain’s largest offshore wind operations and maintenance base creating 250 jobs.
The new facility will support four offshore wind farms, with capacity for more if needed. It will be a base for support and maintenance vessels and house a 24/7 marine and helicopter coordination centre.
A spokesman for DONG said the facility would cost 10-20 million pounds and the company expects it to be fully operational by March 2018.
DONG Energy's UK country chairman, Brent Cheshire said: "This new operational hub will generate job opportunities in the Humber region, as well as opportunities for the local supply chain. It represents a massive vote of confidence to the UK offshore wind industry and confirms our commitment to the Humber region, where we expect to have invested around £6bn by 2019."
