North East blown away by wind sector deal

The North East’s offshore wind sector has been given a major boost by landing a leading role in the government’s new offshore wind plans, following a major sector deal.

The North East is named as one of four regions which will be working as part of the new Offshore Wind Growth Partnership, due to its manufacturing clusters with specialist capabilities in offshore work that are expanding into renewable energy.

The £250m partnership is aimed at helping businesses in offshore wind sector regions become globally recognised for their expertise and innovation. As part of the arrangement, the government also hopes to increase worldwide exports to around £2.6bn by 2030.
