Sunderland business accelerates hydrogen fuel testing
Haskel Europe has invested in highly specialised component testing for the hydrogen sector at its Sunderland headquarters. This means that, for the first time, Haskel Europe can offer suppliers and customers the chance to carry out simulated tests at extremely high pressures as they develop products before releasing them for sale.
Testing components and systems in a working environment is crucial if the emerging hydrogen market in the transport and energy sectors is to grow. Hydrogen could potentially provide the fuel source for up to 50% of cars by 2050.
Haskel specialises in high pressure gas products and has been supplying gas boosters specifically for hydrogen. Established in 1950, the company has a range of clients throughout the oil, gas, energy and defence sectors.
Energy expert view
“With concern growing over the impact of emissions from conventionally fuelled vehicles, the transport sector seems to be moving into hybrid and purely battery based technology. However, it is easy to miss the potential for hydrogen as a ‘clean’ fuel for both the transport and energy sector generally.
“It is very positive to see a North East business with a long track record make a significant investment in support of the growing hydrogen sector. Certainly one to watch.”
