Super-efficient Science Central’s in-house energy plans

Engie, the French engineering business, is to design and install a highly efficient ‘tri generation’ energy scheme for Newcastle’s Science Central site. A combined heat and power system will provide electricity, hot water, heating and chilled water for cooling and air conditioning from absorption chillers.

Cutting edge, cutting emissions

The energy plant is to be housed in a two story energy centre on site with hot and cold water distributed across the site. The system should be much more efficient than taking power from the public electricity supply system and relying on individual boilers for heating provision, reducing carbon emissions as a result.

The energy centre will provide affordable heat to homes and buildings on the site while commercial buildings will also be able to connect to the network. The site will eventually comprise half a million square feet of office space and 450 homes.
