We were proud to sponsor the latest Cumbria Chamber’s Directors Forum event, which focused on sustainability.

Sustainable businesses

Situated just outside Grasmere, the Yan at Broadrayne is a boutique hotel and bistro on a 17th-century converted sheep farm.

Guests gathered for welcome drinks in the bistro before listening to Jess Manley, co-founder of the Yan, talk on the business’s sustainability work, which was recently recognised at the VisitEngland Awards with a Bronze award in the Ethical Tourism category!

The guests also heard from Tony McPhillips, partner and head of our sports, education and charities team, on how Muckle LLP works to become more socially and environmentally sustainable, from how we cut down on paper waste to grant-giving through the Muckle Fund at the Community Foundation.

Tony also discussed and answered questions on our B Corp Certification, as well as our Investors in People Platinum and North East Business of the Year awards.

Sharing best practice

Joe Sanders, Marketing Manager at Cumbria Chamber said: “Our Directors Forum had a really enjoyable visit to the Yan this week. It was inspiring to hear from two very different businesses on the steps they’re taking to become more environmentally and socially sustainable.

"The Directors Forum is all about sharing best practices, discussing important issues and championing the success of local business – our event at the Yan accomplished all three. Thanks as ever to our Directors Forum sponsor, Muckle LLP, for their continued support.”

Tony McPhillips said: “Events that bring like-minded businesses together, such as this, are so important. We are proud to be involved in the Directors’ Forum’s work highlighting some of the region’s fantastic businesses.

“As a B Corp accredited firm, sustainability is at the forefront of what we do whilst being something we can continuously develop. We are always keen to share best practice and learn from others, and it was very interesting to hear about the different ways the Yan and other local businesses are committing to sustainability”.
