Muckle LLP Receives National Award for Work with the Community
Leading North East commercial law firm Muckle LLP has received the “”Best Community Contribution by a regional law firm award”" at the LawWorks annual ceremony in London.
Muckle’s charity team won the accolade for its work and strong links in the North East community and charities sector over the past 12 months. Muckle LLP was the only North East firm nominated for an award at the ceremony and has worked in partnership with LawWorks for the past five years, lending legal support to community based organisations which apply to LawWorks for help.
Joanne Davison, associate solicitor at Muckle LLP, said: Muckle's charity team is multi disciplinary and has a wide range of expertise across the areas where charities may need help such as good governance and constitutional issues, compliance with legislation and Charity Commission guidance, trustee duties and responsibilities, charities and trading and mergers and collaborative working. We also have dedicated charity law experts in each of our property, employment and dispute resolution teams.
Muckle LLP has worked with LawWorks, a national organisation which provides opportunities for community organisations to access legal advice, for over five years, offering reduced fee and pro bono legal advice for some clients, depending on their circumstances. Our people at Muckle LLP also devote a lot of their free time by getting involved with local community projects. We also run our Community Fund: with this, we support smaller, grass roots community organisations which have a great local impact.
Muckle LLP has worked with a number of community organisations over the years, including Allenhead Regeneration Trust in Northumberland. Muckle LLP helped its trustees and the charity by registering it as an incorporated company, allowing the Trust to gain new premises, purchase more assets and create a succession plan for the board, whilst protecting the trustees’ financial exposure.
Joanne continued: A lot of charity organisations are hindered by a lack of commercial legal advice, despite the enthusiasm of their people. We help them understand the different strategies that are available and provide training to address areas such as trustee duties, charity legislation, property issues and accessing funding. Winning the LawWorks award is a reflection of the diverse range of advice that we provide to our clients in the charity sector. We will continually aspire to be a firm which has a strong community ethos and will enable our people to get involved to support what they believe in.
