Muckle volunteers give Newcastle a spring clean
Volunteers from Muckle recently partnered up with NE1 and Home Group to pick up litter from around Newcastle’s Gallowgate area at lunchtime.
The pick, which saw 20 people from apprentice to partner level at Muckle don their hi-vis jackets and gloves, collected seven bags of rubbish in only two hours.
The initiative was supported by NE1, which supplied representatives from its rapid response Clean Team to support us on the day and also loaned us the equipment. Representatives from Home Group, our new neighbours at One Strawberry Lane, also took part.
Local heroes
Chris Maddock, partner at Muckle and head of our Green Team, which focuses on sustainability, commented: "Our internal Green Team is always looking for ways we can make a positive impact, including through reviewing our business operations or team building events to raise environmental awareness.
"This seemed like the perfect opportunity to roll up our sleeves and help clean up the public spaces around our offices. It was great to see so many of the Muckle and Home Group teams get involved and it’s amazing how much of a difference just a few hours of us all working together makes!"
Cleaning up our communities
Litter is a nationwide problem; Keep Britain Tidy estimates that more than 2m pieces of litter are dropped nationwide every day! NE1’s Clean Team plays a huge part in keeping the streets of Newcastle tidy, removing over 5,000 bags of rubbish every year.
NE1 is just one of the many organisations we work with as part of our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy, which underpins everything we do as a business.
