Muckle support Newcastle West End food bank with donations
We are proud to have supported Newcastle’s West End foodbank by donating hundreds of groceries to help local people in crisis.
The cost-of-living crisis means that more and more people are struggling, with research by the Trussell Trust showing that in the last five years, the need for food banks rose by 128%. Food banks in its network distributed 61,000 emergency food parcels in 2010/11, rising to 2.5 million in 2020/21.
Alison Walton, Head of Procurement and trustee at the charity, led a firm-wide drive to collect food to support local families struggling with the rising cost of living.
She said: “It’s terrible that so many people in our region have no choice other than the help that food banks provide to feed their families. This winter, so many more people will have to choose between food and heating, meaning places like the Newcastle West End food bank will become even more vital to those who are struggling.
“Everyone at Muckle gets two volunteering days a year to use to help local causes and I’m delighted that so many of my colleagues have chosen to use theirs to help out over the winter period.
“As a trustee of the charity, I see first-hand how important the work they do is, and it’s only right that as a local business, we do what we can to help causes like this.”
