About Adam

Recognised by Legal 500 as a ‘Next Generation Partner’ and singled out for being ‘very calm and pragmatic’, Adam is a lead adviser on Corporate Finance M&A transactions; specialising in business sales and acquisitions, mergers, private equity and venture capital investments.

Adam has acted on some of the region’s most significant mid-market private equity transactions in recent years and also has vast experience in VCT investments.

Adam was recognised at the Insider Dealmakers Awards as the “Young Dealmaker of the Year” in 2016 before going on to be named “Corporate Lawyer of the Year” at the awards in both 2019 and 2023.  He led the advice on “Deal of the Year” in each of 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023.

Independent legal directory Chambers & Partners notes that Adam’s "leadership is exceptional."

Adam also sits on the Newcastle College Sport, Law and Protective Services Advisory Board and is a trustee and deputy chair of governors of Grasmere Academy in North Tyneside.

Adam Rayner as partner adopted a very calm and pragmatic approach to the project, focusing on key issues at all times and coordinating his team well. His negotiation with counterparties was productive and solution-orientated, which meant that all key points were addressed efficiently. His style often meant that he took the lead by default in key meetings, even if that hadn’t been assigned to him, but this was done in an unassuming and collaborative way.

Digital & Technology

Adam has particular expertise in digital and tech transactions; having advised on some of the most significant deals in this sector in the North East in recent years.

His experience and knowledge in this area mean he often advises tech businesses on their acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures and investment transactions.

Adam advised Swedish-listed gaming company Thunderful Group on its £65m acquisition of Coatsink and on its subsequent acquisition of Robot Teddy.  Adam also led the advice on the sale of transport management software company Mandata Group to Tenzing Private Equity and on Mercia’s VCT investment into SaaS digital commerce business Pimberly.

We have worked mainly with Adam Rayner. He picks the transaction up and runs with it. I know he’s a safe pair of hands and will reach a sensible position while keeping us informed. He is responsive and understands our needs well (having done a few transactions for us).
