About Alison
Recognised as a 'Leading Asssociate' by Legal 500, Alison advises charities, not-for-profit organisations, and those who work with charities, on all manner of governance, constitutional and commercial matters.
Her particular expertise includes carrying out board effectiveness reviews; advising on board/member disputes and removals; managing mergers and partnerships; reviewing, drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts and terms and conditions; provision of fundraising advice; incorporating charities; providing data protection advice and support; and liaising with the various regulators such as the Charity Commission, Companies House, OSCR, and the ICO. Alison is immersed in the charity sector through her work as trustee of two high-profile charities in the arts and heritage sector. She is also a Professional Member of UK Theatre.
She is also a Charity Law Association (CLA) member and regularly sits on the CLA’s working parties formed to respond to Charity Commission and Fundraising Regulator consultations on new trustee guidance.
I found the session incredibly useful. Alison, who provided the legal advice, was super good. She had clearly read all the information I had sent through prior to our meeting and was very well prepared. She gave really good advice and was really helpful. I got exactly what I needed.
"Ryan and Alison were really friendly and helpful, they suggested things that I had not thought about. I would recommend them to other charities."
Charities, no matter their size, often hold significant personal information about their beneficiaries, staff, volunteers, donors, partners, and other third parties. Alison works closely with charitable and not-for-profit organisations to provide bespoke training to trustees and senior management teams on their duties under the GDPR; draft and update their suite of data protection documents and policies; support them in responding to subject access requests; and advising them on data breaches and compliance concerns.
