Chris Maddock
Partner and Head of the Employment Team
About Chris
Chris Maddock heads up the Employment Team. He is a Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 UK Leading Lawyer and is quoted in Legal 500 as “pragmatic, thoughtful and fair”. He works on a wide range of employment-related matters across the region and nationally. He has a commercial approach to employment issues and has been recognised by clients for his “sound technical knowledge” and “being easy to work with”.
Chris has decades of experience in handling contentious and non-contentious employment law matters across all sectors. He has a particular interest in TUPE and has worked on a large number of complex acquisitions, transfers of undertakings and reorganisations. Chris has significant high court experience in enforcing confidentiality and post-termination obligations, as well as substantial employment tribunal and mediation experience. He also uses his extensive expertise to regularly provide employer-focused training and has developed accredited courses on the subject.
Chris Maddock has been my go-to for employment advice and support for a number of years and is an invaluable adviser to the business. He manages to translate the often-complex area of employment law into a clear actionable strategy which ensures we are able to achieve our ongoing business objectives. I would have no hesitation in recommending Chris to cover any employment advice needed.
Chris provides employment advice to numerous charities across sectors as diverse as the arts, education, sport, social housing and the environment.
Chris understands the challenges faced by charities and their trustees. He provides manageable solutions to employment issues by providing trustees boards and managers with practical, cost-effective advice. For many of his charitable clients, this means producing all the paperwork and documentation they need to supplement and implement advice but also includes supporting the charities by attending their board meetings outside normal office hours.
Working with Chris and the team at Muckle has been absolutely incredible, way beyond our initial expectations. Local charities often don’t have specialist resources or skills in-house to deal with these issues, so practical support like this is invaluable.
Over his career, Chris has acted for various sports clients, including sports governing bodies. These range from Premiership and Football League Clubs, the Rugby Players’ Association, first-class cricket clubs and individual sportspeople.
